From the Defender to the Range Rover, Land Rover's models are a familiar sight in the UAE, on city roads and in the dunes. They're capable vehicles, but heat, sand and electronics-heavy designs mean they reward careful maintenance.
Know your service schedule
Land Rover publishes service intervals by time and distance for each model and engine, and many models show service reminders on the dashboard. Your service book or digital service record is the authority. Heat, dust, towing and off-road use often count as severe conditions, so check whether your schedule has a shorter interval for them.
UAE-specific checks
Cooling
Large engines and heavy bodies produce a lot of heat. Check the coolant level and look for leaks around hoses and the expansion tank before summer. The National Centre of Meteorology recorded 51.8°C at Sweihan on 1 August 2025, as reported by Khaleej Times, Gulf News and The National.
Battery and electronics
Modern Land Rovers rely on many electronic systems, and a weak battery can trigger confusing warnings. Gulf News has reported industry experts explaining that heat speeds up battery electrolyte evaporation and that constant AC use adds strain. Get the battery tested before summer. Some models also need a replacement battery registered to the car. See car battery replacement in Dubai.
Air suspension
Many Range Rover models use air suspension. Signs of trouble include the car sitting low after being parked, suspension warning messages, or the compressor running for a long time. Get leaks seen to early, because a struggling compressor wears out faster.
Sand and off-road use
Wash the underbody after desert trips.
Check the air filter and the radiator front for sand.
Reinflate tyres to road pressure before you get back on the tarmac. Ministry of Interior records reported by Khaleej Times list wrong pressure and driving on unsuitable surfaces among the causes of tyre bursts. Driving on unfit tyres carries a Dh500 fine, four black points and a one-week impoundment under Article 82 of the Federal Traffic Law.
Paint and glass
Highway driving in a tall, flat-fronted SUV means stone chips. Consider PPF in Dubai for the front end.
Dealer or specialist?
Khaleej Times reported that the UAE Ministry of Economy abolished compulsory dealer-servicing conditions in 2016. You can use an approved independent centre without, on its own, voiding the warranty, as long as the work meets the manufacturer's standards. For Land Rover, choose a specialist who has:
Land Rover-capable diagnostics, which are essential for suspension, electronics and software
experience with air suspension and your specific engine
willingness to use parts and fluids that meet Land Rover's specifications, listed on the invoice
Recalls and warranty repairs go through the authorised dealer. See our guide to dealer vs independent garages.
A note on the Defender
Land Rover's original Defender went out of production in 2016, and an all-new Defender followed. The National noted in November 2025 that INEOS developed its Grenadier as a rugged successor in spirit to the original Defender after its retirement. If you run a classic Defender, look for a specialist who works on older models, as parts and know-how differ.
Buying used?
Get a pre-purchase inspection with a full diagnostic scan and an air suspension check. The RTA's Technical Vehicle Status Report for Dubai cars doesn't include accident data, and the RTA recommends an independent inspection. See our used car inspection guide.
