Dirty Car Fines in Dubai: What the Rules Say

Leaving your car covered in dust can cost you money in Dubai. Here's what Dubai Municipality and the emirate's public health rules say, and how to avoid a fine, especially if you're travelling.

The rule

Dubai's schedule of public hygiene violations (Executive Council Resolution No. 14 of 2015) includes a penalty for leaving any vehicle or equipment unattended in a public place in a manner that adversely affects public health and safety, or the environment. The penalty is:

  • AED 500, and

  • impoundment of the vehicle once the prescribed notice period expires.

Khaleej Times reported in September 2025 that, in Dubai, leaving a vehicle unwashed in a public space for a long time can result in a Dh500 fine.

How the process works

Dubai Municipality set out the process in September 2025:

  1. Field teams identify and record the vehicle in a smart system.

  2. A warning notice gives the owner between 3 and 15 days to act, depending on the vehicle's condition and location.

  3. For Dubai-registered vehicles, an SMS alert is also sent to the owner through the Roads and Transport Authority's system.

  4. When the warning period expires, the vehicle is removed with Emirates Parking and taken to the impound yard in Al Awir.

Gulf News reported that recovering an impounded vehicle can cost an additional Dh1,381, including fines, storage and towing.

How big is the issue?

According to Dubai Municipality, in the first half of 2025 it:

  • removed 1,387 abandoned vehicles and pieces of equipment

  • issued 6,187 removal warnings across residential, commercial and industrial areas

How to pay a fine

Gulf News explained that you can clear the fine online through Dubai Municipality's website. Go to Quick Pay, then Clear your fines – vehicle, enter your plate details and pay by card.

How to avoid it

Dubai Municipality's advice, as reported by Khaleej Times and Gulf News:

  • Clean your vehicle regularly, especially before travelling.

  • Use a protective car cover.

  • Park in designated areas. Avoid deserted or sandy spots, which speed up deterioration.

  • Don't leave a damaged vehicle on the road where it obstructs traffic or cleaning.

  • Don't leave cars unattended for long periods, particularly during summer holidays.

Practical extras:

  • Book a recurring mobile wash while you're away.

  • Ask a friend or neighbour to check the car and start it, which also helps the battery.

  • Keep your registered mobile number up to date with the RTA so you actually receive the SMS warning.

Don't wash it in the street either

The same 2015 resolution sets a Dh500 penalty for spilling vehicle washing water in places other than those designated. Use a car wash, a detailer or a mobile service that collects its water.

A dusty car can hide other problems

A car left for weeks in the heat often comes back with a flat battery or soft tyres. Before you drive, check:
