Detailing goes well beyond a car wash. It's a deep clean and restoration of the car's interior and exterior, often finished with protection. In a dusty, sunny climate it can make a real difference to how a car looks, feels and holds its value.
Wash vs detail
Car wash: removes surface dirt from the outside, sometimes with a quick vacuum.
Detailing: a thorough, methodical clean of every surface, inside and out, often including paint decontamination, polishing and protection.
What a full detail usually includes
Exterior
Pre-wash and safe hand wash to lift sand without scratching
Decontamination to remove bonded contaminants with clay or chemical treatments
Wheel and tyre cleaning, including the wheel arches
Paint correction (machine polishing) to reduce swirls and light scratches. This is often priced separately
Protection, such as a sealant, wax or ceramic coating
Interior
Deep vacuuming, including under the seats and in the boot
Upholstery and carpet shampoo or extraction
Leather cleaning and conditioning
Dashboard and trim cleaning with UV-protective products
Air vents and door shuts
Glass inside and out
Ask for a written list of what's included, because "full detail" means different things at different shops.
How often in the UAE?
There's no official rule. It depends on use and storage:
Regular washing is the baseline. Fine sand on the paint, wiped off dry, causes scratches.
A full interior detail once or twice a year suits most drivers. Do it more often with children, pets or frequent desert trips.
Paint correction is occasional, and only when the paint needs it, since each polish removes a small amount of clear coat.
Heat matters too. The National Centre of Meteorology recorded 51.8°C at Sweihan, Al Ain, on 1 August 2025, as reported by Khaleej Times, Gulf News and The National. Interior plastics and leather in particular suffer in that kind of heat, so UV-protective products are worth asking for.
Rules worth knowing
Don't let the car stay dirty
Dubai Municipality can issue a Dh500 fine for leaving a vehicle dirty and unattended in a public place. Gulf News reported in September 2025 that owners usually get a period of three to 15 days to act after a warning, and that ignoring it can lead to the car being towed to the impound yard in Al Awir.
Don't wash it on the street
Under Dubai's public health rules (Executive Council Resolution No. 14 of 2015), spilling vehicle washing water in places other than those designated carries a Dh500 fine. Use a proper car wash in Dubai, a detailer, or a mobile service that controls its water.
Choosing a detailer
See their work. Ask for recent before-and-after photos.
Check the method. Do they use the two-bucket method, clean mitts and pH-neutral shampoos?
Ask about insurance in case of damage while your car is in their care.
Get the price in writing, including paint correction and protection.
Mobile or workshop? Paint correction and coatings are best done indoors, away from dust and direct sun.
Protect the result
After a detail, many owners add protection. See our guide to PPF vs ceramic coating, and compare ceramic coating in Dubai and PPF in Dubai.

PPF vs Ceramic Coating: Which Suits UAE Conditions?
Strong sun, sand, highway stone chips and frequent washing all take a toll on car paint in the UAE. Paint protection film (PPF) and ceramic coating are the two most popular ways to protect it, but they do different jobs.
